Creating a sustainable future is a matter of global effort. Port of Antwerp is committed to increase and develop new projects with renewable energy, but also our partner Porto do Açu is a frontrunner in the development of sustainable industry. Porto do Açu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Australian Fortescue Future Industries Pty Ltd (FFI), a subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group Ltd with the goal to realise the production of green hydrogen in Brazil.
Porto do Açu has a strong sustainability strategy and fortifies with this initiative its position as a leader and active contributor in the transition towards green energy and green industry.
The first phase consists of a feasibility study of installing a green hydrogen plant at Port of Açu. Subject to the outcome of the studies, the project envisages the construction of a 300 megawatt capacity green hydrogen plant at Port of Açu, with the potential to produce 250,000 metric tons of green ammonia per year.
